MICHELLE & ROLLO
Grandvaux, Switzerland
Our Wedding Weekend
Friday July 31st to Sunday August 2nd
We can't wait to welcome you to the Lavaux wine region of Switzerland where Michelle has spent many years listening to Bon Iver while watching the sun set into Lac Léman. The Riband family have been in this area since 2000 and live a whole 7 minute drive from the town of Grandvaux where we'll be getting married.
However, it's not just Michelle who feels attached to this landscape. On one of the Shaw family's long drives from the UK to Austria, an eight-year-old Rollo looked out the window at the passing Swiss Alps and proclaimed: he would one day live in Switzerland. Why that was, we'll never quite know, but finally Rollo has found the woman of his dreams: a woman with a Swiss passport.
To celebrate all of these things coming together, we have decided to get married on August 1st (Swiss National Day), the 735th anniversary of Switzerland's founding as a small and mighty alliance of medieval states. Expect many flags (they're a big plus!)

What matters the most to us for this wedding is to bring together all the people who have shaped our lives and share this meaningful place with you. Our goal is to spend as much quality time as we can with each of you—swimming in the lake, playing games, eating cheese, and ripping up the dance floor. We can't wait to have you with us!

How it started
In the summer of 2020, we met at a mutual friend's house in the Costa Brava, Spain.
Somewhere between witty banter and dancing to "Watermelon Sugar," a spark was lit. We delayed our flights home and spent a week together in Barcelona, perfecting the masked Covid kiss. Then Rollo returned to London and Michelle returned to Switzerland, the UK went into lockdown... and we didn't see each other for a year.

The following summer, we were invited to another weekend in the Costa Brava and both (by complete coincidence... but maybe not really) decided to work remotely from Barcelona for a couple months. A summer fling turned into a "let's see where this goes" turned into a "I'm at your parents house right now; what did you tell them about me!?" turned into "I love you, let's make this work."

After two years of long distance between London and Berlin, we decided to move in together in the city where it all began. And, three years later, the story continues.

Thank you for being part of the many chapters of our life together—we are so grateful for you.
